MY STORY

The day your first born comes into this world you have so many dreams and hopes for them, in that dream, not one time in your mind. do you ever think that one day you will have to bury your child. Unexpectedly, 19 years later, I was at my sister’s wedding and every time the door opened at the reception I kept looking up waiting for Jonathan to come through it, but it didn’t happen.  It was December 19, 2003 at 8:26 pm that changed my life forever and all the dreams I had for my son were gone in one moment. I got the call no mother ever wants to get, that Jonathan had been in a bad car accident. That night began my journey and gave me the title of a “mom with a broken heart.” My son passed away On December 20th at 6:00 am, he stayed with us just long enough for all his loved ones to say good-bye.  Although Jonathan never regained consciousness I know he heard each and every loved one’s last words to him. That was when my passion for making it my mission to have my sons legacy live on and make my tragedy turn into something positive, even with all the pain in my heart, I knew I could either be angry at the world or move forward. I could take all my pain and pick myself up while I still have my 2 girls. It was then I realized that my girls were suffering too.  After all they had just lost their brother, but as a mom I was so lost in my own pain that I could not see theirs. I lost focus on how much pain they were experiencing and that the death of their sibling and only brother must have caused trauma and affected them in a way I’ll never know. With all that and a lot more 15 years later JONATHAN’S GIVING TREE was born.
